Academic Activities

7th Grade Students
  • Students get the opportunity to study principles of Earth Science by locating and studying common minerals
  • Create jewelry from the gems studied.
  • Identify factors that affect climate and weather.
  • Physics - What makes things float (weight and mass)?
  • Learn the proper way to conduct scientific lab experiments and to complete written lab reports.
  • Learn about the parts and functions of the heart.

8th Grade Students

  • Students learn how to use detectors to study motion and speed.
  • Learn how to use Calculator Based Laboratories.
  • Analyze water from lakes in Central New York using pH systems.
  • Create model airplanes to study aviation.
  • Build electro magnets.
Earth Science (9th and 10th grades)
  • Create various models of the Earth layers using everyday items.
  • Study the different seasons and create humidity meters.
  • Learn about earthquakes, continents and mountain origins.
  • Take Mock Regents exams.
Biology Course (9th and 10th grades)
  • In this course students learn about the blueprint of life - DNA from the Human Genome Project and create 3-D "baby rebop" model
  • Study Carbon Dioxide and the effects of exercise on the human heart.
  • Explain and illustrate the water cycle.
  • Learn how to successfully dissect specimens.
  • Create cell models.
11th and 12th Grade Students
Students will be afforded the opportunity to:
  • Build vocabulary, critical thinking, reading and writing skills in preparation for their SAT/ACT exams.
  • Fine-tune their writing skills while creating their resumes.
  • Expose and participate in various activities designed to acclimate them to college life.
  • Read and discuss groundbreaking texts, such as "A Hope in the Unseen."
Technology Component (7th - 12th grades)
  • This component enables students in grades 7th - 12th become comfortable using technological advances in their schoolwork by learning how to:
  • Create forms using Excel.
  • Format PowerPoint Presentations.
  • Create documents in Word with special attention given to clip art, graphics and text.
  • Create resumes for employment and college applications.
